The BTS: 2 years to become an optician

The Optician BTS is the key to becoming an optician. It lasts 2 years and can be completed through initial training (school only) or in alternation (school with regular internships with a professional in optics).

Access to the BTS is based on the application and a motivational interview, after obtaining the baccalaureate. It is also preferable to have a General Bac S or ES or a Technological Bac STL (Laboratory Science and Techniques), ST2D (Science and Technology of Industry and Sustainable Development) or STMG (Management Science and Technology).

To go further: the professional license

In the case of a very good application or mention in the BTS, the young graduate may choose not to become an optician right away but to continue studies with a professional diploma. There are several today. For example, we find:

  • the professional health license specializing in optical professions
  • the professional health license for specialized professions in optics and vision
  • Professional optics specializing in health professional license

Another path in the sector: the professional bac

To not become an optician this time, but a sales editor or workshop manager, the professional optical bac is sufficient. Subsequently, if the holder of this professional bac wishes, they will be able to carry out a VAE, validation of acquired experience, if they have 5 years of experience in the store and thus claim the BTS level.

In short, you understand, there are multiple paths and interesting opportunities… Acuité even briefly summarizes in an infographic the opportunities of these different paths to become an optician!
